We are taught in the scriptures that we are to become as little children. In some ways we are already like little children. Like little children, we often don't understand the Fathers plan for us. We don't understand the dangers that are before us if we disobey His commandments. I think of the child who wants to touch the stove when it is hot, or who wants to know what happens when we plug a lamp into the outlet and so reaches his little fingers in the small holes in spite of being warned. We are still very much like little children in this way. We don't see the big picture. We don't comprehend all the reasons that we given commandments.
Thankfully we have been promised that though we do not understand, if we stay with the Lord, he will lead us along, and the treasures and blessings of eternity will be ours.
All of us are like these children, to a degree. But children are also blessed with what seems to me to be a more holy spirit. They are, as King Benjamin says, submissive, meek, patient, humble, patient, full of love, and willing to submit to all things that the Lord sees fit to inflict on us.
Though the attributes of a child that were discussed in the first paragraph might seem to be negative at first glance, I believe that when they are combined with the rest of the characteristics of a child, as explained by King Benjamin we become exactly as the Lord needs us to be. We don't understand, but accept his word and trust that he will make good on his promises. We don't see the future, or the consequences of this action or that, but, like a child, we accept the simple answers that we receive, and move on. Perhaps this is how we are to become as little children.
Don't forget your daily dose of Scriptures!
